“If every 8 year old in the world is taught meditation, we will eliminate violence from the world within one generation”. Dalai Lama.

In the sensitive context of the community (favela) of Vila Canoas, in São Conrado, Rio de Janeiro, Rogerio Barros teaches infantile meditation to the children of the NGO Parati. Classes last ten minutes, plus some extra time to relax with yoga, to talk about emotions experienced during the meditation and to learn about self-consciousness on their own capabilities. Thanks to one-year practice, today children meditate also by themselves, at home.

Parati (, funded in 1989 by Franco Urani and his wife Giuliana, and today managed by their daughter Lidia, is an after school centre created for children between 6 and 12 years old. Daily, children attend several classes, from meditation to theatre to capoeira. Besides, Parati supports children in doing their school homework.
